Why isn’t my MacBook charging?

A MacBook that will not charge can be failing at the charger or cable, the charging port, the battery, or a board-level fault — sometimes more than one at a time. The whole path is tested in that order, and the repair is recommended for the point that has actually failed rather than the most obvious one.

  • Charger and cable tested first — not blamed first
  • Port, battery and board checked where the symptom points
  • The cause is diagnosed before any repair is recommended
BY MODEL

Charging service by MacBook model.

Charging work is priced by model and by what the diagnosis actually requires, so it belongs in a row rather than a single figure. Values are added here as the business confirms them; anything not yet confirmed for a model is quoted after diagnosis.

Charging hardware differs between MagSafe and USB-C generations of Air and Pro — the exact model is identified during diagnosis and the quote follows from it. If your model is not listed, ask.

QUICK ANSWERS

Direct answers

Why isn’t my MacBook charging?
The adapter, the cable, the port, the battery and the board all sit in the same charging path. The path is tested before a part is named.
Is the diagnosis free?
Yes. iServices Centre provides a free diagnosis before recommending a repair.
Do you offer same-day charging repair?
Yes — same-day repair is available for eligible repairs, subject to diagnosis and part availability.
Can the charging port be repaired?
On some models the port is a separate module; on others it sits on the board. The model decides the route, and it is confirmed first.
SYMPTOMS

What happens when you plug it in?

Start with what the device is doing. The cause is established during diagnosis, not from the symptom alone.

Not chargingThe adapter connects and nothing changes — no charging indicator, no movement in the percentage.
Charges intermittentlyCharging starts, pauses and resumes on its own without the cable being moved.
Unstable USB-C connectionThe cable sits loosely, or drops out at the slightest movement.
MagSafe connection issueThe connector will not seat properly, or charging holds only while it is held in place.
Charging stops unexpectedlyCharging halts partway through and does not resume until the cable is reconnected.
Percentage does not increaseThe Mac reports that it is charging, yet the percentage stays where it is — or falls.
Works only on powerThe machine runs with the cable connected and dies the moment it is unplugged.
Charging warning messagemacOS reports the charger as not recognised, not supported, or charging slowly.
No power after charging failureThe battery ran flat during the fault and the machine no longer responds to the power button.
DIAGNOSTIC PATH

Is it the charger, port, battery or board?

Charging is one path, and the symptom alone does not say where it breaks. The check runs from the outside in, and stops at whatever actually explains it:

  • Charger and cable — is power arriving from the wall at all?
  • Port inspection — does the connection sit and hold cleanly?
  • Battery check — does the battery take and hold what arrives?
  • Hardware diagnosis — what do the measurements show across the path?
  • Board-level diagnosis where applicable — where the earlier steps do not
  • Repair option — charger, port, battery or board, decided on what was found

Yes. iServices Centre provides a free diagnosis before recommending a repair.

PORT TYPES

USB-C and MagSafe, by model.

MacBooks charge through different interfaces depending on generation — USB-C on some Air and Pro models, MagSafe on others — and the exact arrangement varies by model. The charging architecture for your machine is identified during diagnosis rather than assumed.

The interface matters for the repair: on some models the port is a module that can be worked on its own, on others the charging path continues into the board. The model decides the route.

  • The interface your model uses is identified first
  • Port hardware inspected for wear, debris and damage
  • Whether the port is a module or part of the board is established at diagnosis
CHARGER OR MACBOOK

How do you know whether the charger or the MacBook is at fault?

A few observations are worth making before anything is opened — none of them require opening anything: visible damage to the cable or the port, whether the adapter being used matches the machine, and whether the behaviour changes with a different compatible charger. Those three answers are useful at the counter.

Beyond that the question needs measurement rather than guesswork: the adapter, the cable and the machine are tested here against known-good equipment, and the answer is what the tests show.

  • Look for visible cable or port damage — nothing beyond that
  • Check the adapter matches the machine
  • The electrical side is decided at the bench, not at the keyboard
BOARD-LEVEL

Sometimes a charging problem is a logic-board problem.

Some charging faults are not solved by replacing a port or a battery. Where the path fails on the board itself, the fault sits with the circuitry that manages power — and that is board-level work rather than a part swap.

In-house technicians diagnose the fault first, including chip-level work where the board’s condition allows it. If the fault turns out to be the adapter or the cable, you hear that instead — the diagnosis decides what gets recommended.

Where the fault is the charger itself, we say so — no repair is sold for a working machine.

PARTS

What gets fitted, stated plainly.

Where charging work requires a replacement component, it is a premium aftermarket part. Nothing is described as genuine, original, OEM or Apple-certified unless that is exactly what it is.

  • Premium aftermarket parts where a component is replaced
  • The part and the price explained before approval
  • Charging verified after the work, not assumed
THE WORK

Charging faults follow the whole path.

Power has to pass from the wall through the adapter, the cable, the port, the charging circuitry and into the battery. A failure anywhere along that route produces the same complaint, which is why charging is one of the most commonly misdiagnosed faults on a MacBook.

We work along the path with tested equipment and identify where it stops. If the answer is an adapter or a cable, we say so rather than sell a repair; if it is board-level, you hear that before anything is approved.

  • Adapter and cable tested against the machine
  • Port condition and pins inspected
  • Repair carried out in-house by our own technicians
  • Charging verified under load after the repair
DIAGNOSIS FIRST

How the repair runs

Every repair follows the same order: establish the fault, explain the options, do the work only once it is approved.

01

Tell us what happened

Describe what happens when you connect the charger, any warning messages, and how the machine behaves on power.

02

Free diagnosis

Diagnosis is free and comes before any recommendation is made.

03

Check charger, cable and charging behaviour

The adapter, the cable and how the machine reports charging are checked together first.

04

Inspect the charging path

The port, its connection and the condition of the pins are inspected for wear, debris and damage.

05

Determine port, battery or board-level fault

Measurements across the path decide which of them has actually failed — or that the fault sits elsewhere.

06

Explain the repair option

The repair option, the price and the timing are explained — and nothing proceeds without approval.

07

Repair in-house and test charging

The work is carried out in-house and charging is verified before the machine is handed back.

05 / WHY IT MATTERS

Why proper diagnosis
comes first.

A repair decided from the symptom alone replaces parts that were never at fault. Diagnosis is what makes the recommendation worth taking.

01

Free diagnosis

We inspect the device and explain the fault before any repair is discussed.

02

Chip-level repair

Board faults are investigated at component level where a full replacement is not the only option.

03

Transparent recommendations

If a repair is not worth doing, we tell you instead of selling one.

Questions people actually ask

01Why isn’t my MacBook charging?+

The charger or cable, the charging port, the battery and the board all sit on the same path — the cause can be any of them. The path is tested and the failing point identified before a repair is recommended.

02Is the problem my MacBook charger or the charging port?+

It can be either, and the symptoms alone do not separate them. The charger is tested against the machine, so the answer is measured rather than assumed.

03Can a MacBook charging port be repaired?+

On some models the port is a separate module that can be repaired or replaced; on others the charging path runs into the board. Your model decides the route, confirmed at diagnosis.

04Can a USB-C charging port be repaired?+

Sometimes — whether port-level work applies depends on how the model is built and what the inspection finds. That is established before anything is quoted.

05Can a MacBook charging problem be caused by the battery?+

Yes. A battery that will not take or hold a charge presents as a charging problem, so battery condition is checked as part of the path.

06Can a charging problem be caused by the logic board?+

Yes. Where the fault sits in the board’s power circuitry, neither a new port nor a new battery will change it — that is board-level diagnosis and repair, carried out in-house where the fault allows.

07Do you offer same-day MacBook charging repair?+

Same-day repair is available for eligible repairs, subject to diagnosis and part availability — timing is confirmed once the machine has been inspected.

08Do you offer free MacBook diagnosis?+

Yes. iServices Centre provides a free diagnosis before recommending a repair.
